Holy Matrimony. A One Act Comedy
In
an effort to encourage candidates for priesthood Rome decides to revoke
its law of celibacy and allow Catholic priests to marry.
However
now that clergy had permission to do something that had been talked
about for so long none of the present clergy made a move to take
advantage of the situation. The local Bishop suggested to one of his
curate's Fr Bill Molloy that he should set an example by going out and
getting himself a wife knowing that such a suggestion would be looked on
as an order.
Premiered by the Quarry Players in the One Act Play Drama Festival 1997
It came first place in the Limerick Contest, Second place in Doonbeg Co Clare and second place in the Shannon Airport Contest.
The
Quarry Players then went on to perform the play in what could be termed
as series of 'one night' stands in various pubs and hotels around
Limerick City some of whom were Greenhills Hotel, Glentworth Hotel.
Costello's, Riddlers, and the White House bars.
Another Amateur drama group performed the play to full houses for three nights at the Anglers Rest, Doonass, Limerick.
